A man's died after being pulled from the water at Lakeside Country Park in Eastleigh following a major search operation.

Police, firecrews and the ambulance service searched a lake there yesterday afternoon (Monday 9 December) after being called to reports of a man who had entered the water and not re-emerged.

Following the joint search operation, a male casualty aged 28 was rescued from the water and taken to hospital by ambulance.

He was said to be in a serious, life-threatening condition in hospital. Hampshire Police confirmed he later died in hospital.

Water rescue teams helped specialist police officers with the search operation.

A police investigation has now started into how the man ended up in the freezing lake.
