Large Fire At Isle Of Wight Hotel

A large fire has badly damaged the Ryde Castle Hotel on the seafront in Ryde.

It broke out at around 10pm on Saturday 17th March 2012 in the roof of the hotel, and spread to the top of the building.

Around 40 firefighters tackled the flames, and the building later partly collapsed.

All the guests were safely evacuated and there are no reports that anyone's been hurt.

The hotel has 18 bedrooms and was originally a Victorian family home.

An investigation's underway into the cause of the fire. It's not known it's linked to a fireworks display which was held at the hotel earlier in the evening.
