Festival-goers voluntarily gave up £25,000 of illegal drugs to amnesty bins at this year's Bestival.

Figures released by Hampshire Police following the four-day event at Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight showed the amount of drugs which had been given up anonymously at the entrance to the site last weekend, while more than £20,000 of drugs were seized for evidential purposes.

A total of 62 drugs offences were recorded and 116 drugs-related stop checks were carried out, a police spokesman said.

The overall crime rate was reduced by 12% compared with the previous year, he added.

The theme for this year's sold-out event, which has become famous for its fancy dress, was Desert Island Disco.

Performers included Beck, OutKast, Foals, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, Disclosure, and Major Lazer.
