Detectives have launched an investigation after an 18-year-old woman reported she had been raped by a man in Holbury.

The teenager had been walking along Studley Avenue when she went down an alleyway which goes towards Oakley Close.

It was just as she entered the alleyway at around 7.50pm on Sunday, November 10 that she was grabbed by a man and subjected to the serious sexual assault.

The man is described as aged 20-30, of slim build and wearing dark clothing.

The woman was hit by the man before he made off leaving her dazed and with bruising to her head.

Detective Inspector Dave Nealon leading the investigation named Operation Rockhampton said: “We are now trying to trace anyone who may have seen a man matching the description of the attacker around the time of the incident.

“Attacks like this are very rare especially in the New Forest and we want to find the man responsible as soon as possible.

“We are currently speaking with the victim to ascertain any more information about what happened and why she may have been targeted.”

“I would urge anyone with information about the crime to call the Western Area CID team on 101 or alternatively phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“My officers are currently carrying out house to house enquiries in the area and there are extra patrols in the area offering public reassurance.”
