Hampshire Police Investigate Offensive Facebook Page

7 January 2014, 16:34

Police are appealing for information about an offensive Facebook page that was set up following the death of a teenager on the Isle of Wight.

The page was created following the death of 14-year-old Kiri-Jade Hodgkinson who died in a crash at Mersley Down last week.

Inspector Terry Clawson said:

“The page has since been taken down but has already caused unbearable upset for Kiri-Jade’s family and friends.

“We’re taking this matter very seriously and investigating it from a criminal perspective. We’re working with Facebook and following other lines of enquiries and we will be taking appropropriate action.

“If you have any information that can assist with our enquiries, please contact us directly. If you come across any similar sites, please also let us know and avoid commenting on them.”

There's information here on what to do if you find anything offensive on social media.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Peter Russell at Newport DCIC on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
