Police in Bitterne are appealing for information after a family received threats from approximately seven men who called at their home.

The incident occurred at an address in Roundhill Close, Townhill Park, Southampton, at around 10.40pm on Tuesday, January 18.

The occupants responded to a knock at their door and were confronted by approximately seven men who then subjected all five of them to violence and threats and demanding money.

During the incident one of the occupants attempted to run from the rear of the house but was dragged back in.  She then attempted to run out of the front door and was assaulted by one of the men outside the property..  He grabbed her by her chest and held a knife to her throat, threatening to kill her if she did not calm down.  She suffered superficial injuries but did not require medical treatment.

A man in the house was also assaulted with a hammer when the men were demanding money from him.  He had to attend Southampton General Hospital for treatment to his injuries which again were not serious.

The men, who were all black, left the property with a mobile phone and a small amount of cash in two vehicles which were parked in Hazelwood Road..

Detectives are trying to establish a motive for the incident but believe the family were specifically targeted and it was not a random attack.

Officers are appealing to neighbours or anyone else who may have seen or heard anything to contact them.

Information should be given by phoning Bitterne CID on 101 or the Crimestoppers charity line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
