A new foreign University of Southampton student's been robbed, just hours after arriving in the country.

The 19-year-old woman from Singapore landed at Heathrow at 7am on Tuesday 27 August, and took a coach to Southampton.

At 3pm, she was walking in Commercial Road, from the city centre towards the station.  As she passed restaurants, opposite building works, a man came up behind her, snatched her Apple iPhone 5 and bank card and pushed her to the ground.

He ran up an alleyway next to the Vestry pub towards the Polygon.  The woman asked two men who were walking the other way to stop him, but they ignored her.

The robber is described as a black man in his early twenties.  He is slim and about 6ft tall.  He wore fading grey jeans, a light blue/grey tee shirt, a grey beanie and trainers.

Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the robbery, especially from the two men who the woman asked to assist.

"These men could have important information about the robber, so we really need them to contact us," said Police Staff Investigator Neil Anderson.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PSI Anderson at Shirley CID on 101.
