Five People Escape Portsmouth House Fire

Five people have escaped a house fire in Portsmouth.

Firefighters were called to Ophir Road in North End about 4.30 this morning (Saturday 29 March).

Three people had to be rescued, while the other two managed to get out safely themselves.

Two people have been treated for breathing in smoke.

The cause of the fire isn't known yet, and is being investigated.

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) spokesperson said:

"At 0425 this morning, HFRS fire control were alerted to a fire in a property in Ophir Road, North End, Portsmouth. They immediately dispatched three appliances to attend.

"On arrival, crews were met with a significant ground floor fire of a mid terraced three storey house. The ground floor front room was severely affected by fire and six breathing apparatus, two hosereels and one jet were used to extinguish it.

"All five adult occupants were accounted for; three were assisted to safety by HFRS and two self-rescued.

"Two adults were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

"The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

"Crews from Cosham, Southsea and Havant, totalling twenty five firefighters attended, along with three senior officers and support appliances."
