Firefighters Tackle Fareham House Fire

Up to 30 firefighters ended up tackling a fire at a house in Fareham last night (Tuesday 1st May).

Fire crews were alerted to a fire at a semi detached house in Gudge Heath Lane, Fareham at 21:20pm.

Control operators immediately mobilised crews from across the area as well as support vehicles to tackle the blaze in the roof and first floor a semi detached house in the Hill Park area.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue crews from Fareham, Portchester, and Cosham as well as the Ariel Ladder Platform from Southsea who were also called to the scene. In all more than 30 personnel attended the incident. 

Firefighters using 6 breathing apparatus, two jets and two hose reels, worked to tackle the blaze which had quickly spread to the roof.
The Incident Command Unit and the Fire and Emergency Support Service vehicles were also mobilised to the scene from the Service headquarters at Eastleigh.

Officer in Charge, Station Manager Tim Spencer-Peet, said: "On arrival, the initial crews were faced with a bedroom fire quickly spreading to the roof. The crews immediately mounted both fire-fighting and search and rescue operations. Following a through search of the building all occupants were accounted for.

"The fire crews continued to tackle the blaze for several more hours to prevent further spread. Firefighters worked very hard indeed and I am very proud of their efforts. "

The roof space of the two storey semi property, measuring approx 11m X 9m, and first floor where the fire started was severely damaged. The first floor also suffered water damage. 

An investigation will now be carried out to determine the cause of the blaze.
