Drivers Attacked At Southampton Petrol Station

Police are appealing for information after four people were assaulted while they waited to be served at the 24 hour Esso petrol station in Southampton.

It happened at the Northam Road branch. At approximately 4.10am on Sunday, February 13th, a group of five men approached the queue and for reasons unknown, physically assaulted at least four men and women. Officers also believe that another man, possibly a taxi driver who is still to be identified, sustained a nose injury in the incident.

Of those injured, a 23 year old man, sustained a broken eye socket, while a 33 year old man has a broken nose, and another man and woman also suffered minor injuries.

The main offender is described as: 

  • White
  • 5ft 6ins’ to 5ft 8ins’ tall
  • Medium build 
  • Aged 18 to 25 years
  • Short dark brown hair
  • He was wearing a plain long sleeved grey top but without a hood, black trousers and black shoes.  
  • He spoke with a local English accent.

 Another is described as:

  • White man 
  • Aged 22-23 years  
  • Over 6ft tall 
  • Medium build 
  • Short dark hair  
  • He was wearing a dark blue long length coat.

 A further man is described as:

  • White  
  • Aged 23-24 years old  
  • Less than 6ft tall  
  • Large build  
  • Blonde hair  
  • He was wearing a light blue coat.

Investigating officers are appealing for any witnesses to this incident who may prove vital in tracing those responsible for this sustained and unprovoked attack.

This garage operates around the clock and is popular with taxi drivers and people making their way home from the city centre.  Police would be interested in speaking to anyone who may have been there at the time of this incident and are particularly keen to locate a taxi driver who they believe to have driven into the garage at the time.
