Cyclists Crash Helmet Broken In Attack

Police in Portsmouth are appealing for information following an attempt to rob a 19-year-old woman.

The incident happened at around 12.15am on Sunday, January 8 at the traffic lights on the junction of St Mary’s Road and Fratton Road.

The woman was returning home from work on her bike when she was stopped by a man by the lights asking for a cigarette light. The woman said she didn’t have a light and moved on to the next set of lights. The man stopped her again and demanded she hand over her bike. The woman refused and she was hit on the head three times causing her cycle helmet to break.

Two men saw the incident and shouted at the man to stop, he ran off towards St Mary’s Church.
 
The woman suffered minor injuries to her face and neck.

Early 20s
Approximately 5ft 7ins tall
Thin build
Wearing a dark blue hooded top and dark tracksuit bottoms
Local accent
