Detectives are appealing for witnesses after an attempted armed robbery in Portsmouth.
A man entered the ‘G & S Jewellers’ shop in Charlotte Street at approximately 9.50am on Saturday, April 21, 2012. It’s alleged he threatened three female staff with a knife and demanded jewellery.
The man left the shop empty-handed after the staff refused to hand over any jewellery. They were not assaulted or injured.
It’s reported the man then ran along Charlotte Street and Eden Street into the former Tricorn centre car park.
He was described as white and wearing a balaclava.
This man was seen with another white man who had been spotted waiting on the corner of Charlotte Street and Eden Street.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Fiona Wright said: “This attempted robbery took place as the popular market was in Commercial Road nearby. We believe the two men were in the area of Charlotte Street and Eden Street before therobbery from around 9.15am. It’s alleged both of them were running in the area at around 9.55am after the failed robbery attempt. The surrounding streets were busy with shoppers and people parking their cars.
“If anyone saw two men acting suspiciously in the Charlotte Street area at this time, saw them running away from this area, or have any information about their identities, we would like to hear from you.”
