Appeal After Woman Attacked In Gosport

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a 20-year-old woman was assaulted in the early hours of Sunday, August 12.

At around 1.15am, the young woman was walking home from the Clarence Tavern, in Mumby Road, Gosport, when she was approached by a man who attempted to sexually assault her at the junction of Weevil Lane. The woman struggled free. 

Detectives are making an appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed this incident or who recognises the description of this man to contact them. 

"It was a very distressing incident for this young woman, who was left extremely shaken," said Detective Inspector Andy Symes. 

"We are very keen to find this man as quickly as possible, and are asking anyone who may have been leaving a pub or club in the area this morning and taxi drivers who were driving through this area to please have a good think back; did you see this man? Do you think you might have witnessed this incident? 

"If so, please call us now and help us find him."

The suspect is described as: 

* White, with tanned skin 

* Around 5ft 7ins tall 

* Slim and athletic build 

* Short, grade 1 cut hair 

* Approximately 30 years of age 

* Wearing jeans and shirt
