A woman is due to appear in court over the murder of a grandmother beaten to death in her own home.
Mary Logie, 82, was found dead in the living-room of her flat in the Green Gates area of Leven, Fife, at about 8pm on January 5.
The grandmother was a regular churchgoer who had planned to visit a friend in hospital that day but did not turn up.
At the time, police said she had been the victim of a "brutal and horrendous attack'' and launched a major investigation.
High-visibility police patrols were carried out to reassure the local community and an appeal for information was made on Tuesday, two weeks on from the death.
Police arrested a 40-year-old woman on Wednesday.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: ''A 40-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with the murder of Mary Logie in Leven on Tuesday January 5.
''She is scheduled to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Thursday January 21.''
Mrs Logie was described as a ''kind, friendly and outgoing'' woman.
She had recently returned home from spending Christmas with one of her sons in England and was said to have led an active life, with lots of friends.
Rev Gilbert Nisbet of Leven Parish Church said: '''I have been the minister here for nine years and she came virtually every Sunday and I would chat to her at the door.
''Mary was friendly and outgoing, a kind lady who was bright and interesting to talk to.
In a statement released through Police Scotland, Ms Logie's family said: ''Mary (Rae) Logie, a beloved mother, grandmother and friend will be sadly missed.
''She was born, bred and lived in the Leven area all her life.''
