Three Men Killed On Roads In One Day

Tributes have been paid to a man who died in a crash on a day when Scotland's roads claimed three lives in separate incidents.

Brian Lawrence, 77, died after he was injured in a two-car collision on the A98 Buckie to Cullen road in Moray on Sunday.

Mr Lawrence, from Cullen, was driving a blue Rover 75 car while the other car involved was a silver Renault Megane.

The 50-year-old male driver of the Megane and a 73-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Rover remain in hospital.

In a statement released through police, Mr Lawrence's son Mark said: "My dad was well-known about the area, he was always able to help anyone in need of his electrical skills or anything.

"We are devastated about his death and would like to thank all the emergency services that tried to save him.''

Police have appealed for information about the crash which happened at about 11.30am near the junction with the unclassified road leading to Findochty.

Later on Sunday, two men died on the same road after their cars hit trees in separate incidents.

Henry Millar, 36, was driving south on the A77 towards the Grassyards interchange in East Ayrshire when the white Kia Cee'd mounted the nearside verge and collided with a tree.

Mr Millar, from Kilmarnock, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash, which happened at about 6.50pm.

The road was closed for several hours as crash scene investigators conducted enquiries at the scene.

A few hours later, a 31-year-old man died after his car mounted a roundabout and hit a tree.

The one-vehicle crash happened on the A77 at the Dutch House roundabout near Monkton in South Ayrshire at about 11.20pm.

The vehicle - a grey Ford Kuga - was travelling northbound when it mounted the roundabout and collided with a tree.

Emergency services attended and the man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, where he was later pronounced dead. No-one else was injured.

The road was closed for several hours as investigations were carried out.

Police have appealed for information about the crashes.
