Teen Remanded Over Baby Death

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his new-born baby daughter.

Three-week-old Mikayla Haining died on Thursday June 8 after being taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness in the Highlands.

Thomas Haining, 19, appeared in private at Inverness Sheriff Court on Thursday charged with murder, the Crown Office confirmed.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

The case was committed for further examination, with a further court appearance due to take place next week.
