A teenager has appeared in court charged with drug offences after six 13-year-olds were treated in hospital.

The group was taken to Crosshouse Hospital near Kilmarnock after falling unwell around 6.25pm on Saturday.

They were kept in overnight for observations with police issuing a warning over a batch of tablets the teenagers were thought to have taken.

A 17-year-old male was arrested and appeared in private at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday.

The teenager from Irvine, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with supplying a controlled drug under section four of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

He was released on bail and the case was committed for further examination with a further court date to be set.
