Police are looking for three men who attacked a man with baseball bats in an attempted murder after he had an earlier argument with a motorist.

The 26-year-old was walking along Inverleith Street near Craigleith Street in Glasgow when he was attacked by the trio at about 8pm on November 19.

The three men had been travelling in a silver Ford transit van with dark-coloured racing stripes over the bonnet and made off in the same vehicle.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Police said that before the attack the man had been involved in a "verbal altercation" with a man driving an old-style silver Vauxhall Corsa on Murrayfield Street, which resulted in the motorist driving off through a red light onto Carntyne Road.

Officers believe the two incidents could be linked and are appealing for information.

Detective Constable David Adam, of Shettleston police office, said: "This would appear to have been an unprovoked and violent attack which left a man with life-threatening injuries and therefore it is vital that we trace the men involved.

"There is a Chinese takeaway (Panda Chinese takeaway) near to where the first altercation took place on Murrayfield Street and we would appeal to anyone who was in the area who may have seen an altercation take place to come forward.

"We are asking you to think back - were you on Murrayfield Street, Carntyne Road or Inverleith Street that night? Did you see anything suspicious or any vehicles matching the descriptions?

"You may also have dash cam footage which could aid our enquiries."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Shettleston police office via 101, quoting incident number 3512 of November 19.

Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.
