A woman and her dog were attacked in a "terrifying ordeal'' while out for a walk in broad daylight, police have said.
A man and woman targeted the 30-year-old as she walked her Jack Russell in the Gallowhill area of Paisley, Renfrewshire.
They dragged her to the ground, kicking and punching her, while at the same time trying to injure the dog.
During the attack, the contents of the victim's bag spilled onto the ground and she managed to escape while the suspects scrambled to grab the contents.
Nothing of value was stolen and the woman was not seriously injured though her dog suffered a minor injury.
Police are appealing for information about the incident which happened on a path which comes out near to Knowe Road at the junction with Montgomery Road in Gallowhill at around 9.10am on Friday November 4.
Detective Constable Raymond Brownlow, from the Acquisitive Crime Team based at Paisley, said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim, who was thankfully not seriously injured, but still left badly shaken as a result of this incident. Her dog also escaped with only a minor injury.
"It is crucial that we trace these cowardly individuals as soon as possible and I am appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
"I would like to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened or a man and woman matching the above description acting suspiciously around the area at the time of this attack.''
The man is described as being of medium height and slim build, aged 35 to 40 years old with unkempt brown hair.
He had a gaunt appearance and a distinctive scar which runs from his left ear to his mouth, and scarring around his mouth. At the time of the attack he was wearing a dark grey zipper.
The woman is described as having unkempt brown shoulder length hair. At the time of the incident she was carrying a cream handbag.
