An elderly man has been stabbed to death in a Glasgow street.

The attack happened in Abercromby Street in the Bridgeton area at around 12.30am on Wednesday.

The man, who has not been identified yet, was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he died.

Police said a murder investigation has been launched and officers have taped off the road while the scene is scoured by forensic teams.

A spokeswoman said: "At around 12.25am an elderly man was stabbed in Abercromby Street, near Stevenson Street, in Bridgeton, Glasgow.

"He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and died a short time later. We have launched a murder inquiry and investigations are continuing.''
