Detectives have launched a murder inquiry into the death of a man found lying injured on a pavement.

Albert McDonald, 58, was found with head injuries in Cumbernauld Road in the Riddrie area of Glasgow at about 9.30pm yesterday.

He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary but died on the way to hospital. His relatives have been informed.

Police Scotland confirmed it has launched a murder probe after a post-mortem examination was carried out.

Detective Chief Inspector Laura McLuckie urged anyone with information to come forward.

She said: "Cumbernauld Road would have been busy, with people coming out of the bingo and drivers passing through the area, around the time Albert was found.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious to contact police immediately.

"No matter how insignificant you think your information might be please get in touch as it may prove vital to our investigation.''

Anyone with information can contact police via the non-emergency number 101 or by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
