Digger smash in Rutherglen

One man has died and another is seriously injured following a crash involving a car and a heavy agricultural vehicle which was towing a digger.

Five other cars and a bus were also caught up in the collision in Rutherglen, near Glasgow, on Tuesday morning.

Police have not revealed details of the nature of the incident but reports have suggested the digger toppled and landed on top of the car.

Police Scotland said the emergency services were called to the crash in Fernhill Road at around 11.05am.

The man driving the car, 60 year old Francis Mooney, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 25 year old male driver of the agricultural vehicle was taken to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where staff describe his stable.

The bus and the five other cars which were also involved in the incident were not badly damaged, police said.
