The fire, in Stewartville Street, in the Partick area of Glasgow, triggered a large response from the emergency services.
The fire broke out on the the third floor of a six storey residential block of flats just after midnight.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service says crews were initially dispatched from Yorkhill, Maryhill and Cowcaddens Fire Stations.
Additional crews then had to be drafted in from Milngavie, Govan, Springburn, Calton and Motherwell.
Seventeen people were rescued, with those suffering from smoke inhalation and cuts and bruises treated at the scene by the Scottish Ambulance Service.
The blaze has now been brought under control and a a joint investigation between Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland is being carried out.
Officials confirmed there were no fatalities in the blaze, which began just after midnight on Sunday, although a number of people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Police Scotland said they were called to the fire, which broke out in a communal area of the block, at around 12.15am.
A spokeswoman said: ''About 25 to 30 persons were evacuated.''
A multi-agency meeting and a joint investigation between Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland will be conducted this morning.
