Family Of Five Rescued From City Centre Fire In Glasgow

Two men and two women along with a young child were saved from their upstairs home after a fire broke out at the Steak and Cherry restaurant on Sauchiehall Street.

Three appliances were sent to the scene around 11 o clock last night - it's believed to have started in the kitchen area.

The family were brought down to safety on ladders and taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for a precautionary check up.

Around 70 crew members and 11 fire engines attended in total and part of the busy central street remained closed this morning as investigations began into what caused it.

Premises and flats on either side of the building were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Area commander Garry Milne praised his team saying: ``The rescue of this family from the upper floors, was a textbook ladder rescue.''
