Driver killed as car hits tree in South Ayrshire

A driver has died in a crash with a tree on a country road.

The 39-year-old woman was driving a Ford Fiesta on the A759 between Troon and Dundonald in South Ayrshire when the vehicle lost control and struck a tree at around 5.20am on Thursday.

Emergency services attended but the woman died at the scene, police said.

She was the only person travelling in the car at the time.

Sergeant Kevin Blackley said: "At this time our enquiries are continuing into the cause of the crash, and I would urge anyone who witnessed the crash take place, or who was driving on this road immediately before the time of the crash to contact the divisional road policing unit at Irvine police office through 101, quoting reference number 0409 of January 4."
