A 61-year-old man has been targeted by a gang of teenagers in a race hate crime in the north of Glasgow.
Officers were called after the group threw a firework at the man's home in Springburn in the early hours of Sunday.
He confronted the group and was racially abused by the gang, who then threw bricks at him before fleeing.
Police Scotland has appealed for information about the incident, which occurred in Berryburn Place at 12.45am on Sunday.
The victim was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and was later released after receiving treatment.
An extensive investigation has been launched and officers are conducting door-to-door inquiries and examining CCTV footage.
Chief Inspector Stevie Hazlett said: ''This was a horrific attack on a family home and a father who came out to protect them.
''It is absolutely essential that we trace the cowardly and despicable individuals responsible as soon as possible because this type of behaviour simply will not be tolerated in our community.
''Officers are following a number of lines of inquiry and I am confident that we will find the group of youths who did this, but we need the support of the local community to achieve this.
''If you have any information that could assist with our inquiries, no matter how insignificant it might be, please get in touch.
''Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Shettleston police.''
