A 28 year old motorcyclist has died in a crash with a parked car.

David McGarvey from Edinburgh was travelling to Duddingston Park from Duddingston Park South in Edinburgh at around 2.30pm on Boxing Day when he collided with a Saab 93.

Police said he suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

He was riding a Husqvarna motorbike while the car was unoccupied and parked on the street.

The road was closed for more than five hours on Tuesday while the scene was examined. Officers are now appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

Sergeant Kos Papakyriakou said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of this man who tragically lost his life as a result of the collision.

"I would ask anyone who was in the vicinity of the area immediately prior to the collision, or who witnessed what happened, to contact police as soon as possible.

"Similarly, anyone with other information relevant to this inquiry is asked to come forward to help with our investigations."
