World War Z Shuts Off George Sqaure
Filming for Brad Pitt's new movie World War Z will shut down Glasgow's George Square to traffic and pedestrians.
The major film production, World War Z, is currently on location in Glasgow until 31 August.
The filming has seen the transformation of George Square and surrounding streets to a scene that replicates the centre of Philadelphia.
As part of the filming, it is now necessary to close George Square to traffic until 3pm on Tuesday 23 August. The closures will be controlled by stewards to allow service / delivery vehicle and taxi access to West George Street.
Pedestrian access on George Square will be limited until 3pm tomorrow as the production will use most of the square. People considering coming to the centre of Glasgow during this time to see the production should be aware that there will be very limited opportunities to watch filming.
In addition, people who do come to the square may be asked to move on or stop by stewards to allow filming to take place.
The decision to film in Glasgow was taken after the production met with Glasgow City Council’s Glasgow Film Office. The production has a cast and crew of around 1200 people in Glasgow, and is likely to generate in excess of £2million for the city’s economy.
Glasgow Film Office has been working with the production over the past few months to help secure locations in the city and coordinate arrangements with council departments and other public bodies to ensure minimal impact on normal business.
Residents and businesses in areas where filming will take place (Cochrane Street, George Square and other city locations) have already been consulted with by the film’s production office and are aware of the filming and production details.
