Railway Line Fire Causes Rush Hour Mayhem
Railway services between Scotland's biggest cities are returning to normal following a fire at the side of the line.
A 200 metre exclusion zone was set up by emergency services this morning after a shed, believed to contain explosive gas canisters, caught fire in Bonnybridge.
The railway lines between Glasgow and Edinburgh and Falkirk Grahamston and Cumbernauld were closed along with two roads.
But the exclusion zone was removed after tests showed the shed did not contain either acetylene or propane, as originally thought.
Fire and Rescue crews were called to the scene at Greenhill Road at 5.15am.
A Central Scotland police spokesman said: ``Although the fire is still ongoing and fire crews remain on the scene, it has been confirmed that the canisters are not acetylene or propane and the exclusion area has now been lifted.
``This means that rail lines between Edinburgh and Glasgow and Falkirk and Croy (Cumbernauld) are now re-open. Local roads affected by closures are also being re-opened.''
Passengers are advised this mornings events may cause knock on delays and short notice cancellations.
