Euromillions result: £168m rollover prize goes to single ticket holder in Spain

Life has become a fiesta for someone in Spain after a ticket holder there won the record-breaking €190m (£168m) Euromillions jackpot.

The prize had rolled over since the start of September because no one had matched five numbers and two lucky stars in the twice-weekly draws.

It had reached its maximum size.

The winning numbers of 01, 09, 15, 19 and 25 and lucky star numbers 01 and 07 were matched by a ticket sold in Spain.

While British punters missed out on the big prize, four UK ticket holders matched five numbers and one lucky star to win £900,571 each.

Andy Carter, the National Lottery's senior winners' adviser, urged all UK players to check their tickets quickly because it could be them.

"We have champagne on ice ready to celebrate," he said.

Camelot estimates as many as 26,000 tickets could have been sold in the build up to Friday night's draw.

Excitement was palpable in the UK, where gamblers' thoughts had doubtless turned to what they might do with the money if they won.

UK lottery players were also buoyed by the country's recent record in the draws.

Four Euromillions jackpots have been won by UK ticket holders this year, the most recent in August when someone pocketed almost £52m.

In July, a UK ticket holder did even better, winning an £87m jackpot.
