Entries for a new endurance 10k run with a bit of a difference that's taking place in Whitley Bay have opened.

The Whitley Bay Warrior Beach Assault is a 10k course that is littered with obstacles.

It takes place on Saturday the 29th of March 2014, starting at Spanish City on the Whitley Bay seafront - and includes a bit on the beach as well as a bit on the Links area.

There are 20 obstacles in total, each with equally terrifying names, such as 'Trench Foot' and 'Giants Causeway'.

Organiser Phil Gray told Capital:
"People taking part can expect to get dirty and wet. They can expect a bit of climbing.

There's a very interesting zone called the 'kill zone'. I'm not gonna let on to what that is just yet, but people are gonna love it.

This is very much about anyone taking part and people having fun."

If you are interested in running the event and don't have a particular charity to run for, then organisers are asking you to consider raising funds for Norcare - which is a charity based in the North East that is building a veterans centre for ex veterans right the way through from World War 2 to Afghanistan.

People who take part in the event will receive a finishers bag with a t shirt and medal to prove they've done it.
