Unemployment Falls By 11,000 In The North East

The number of people out of work in the North East has fallen by 19,000 in the three months between December and February 2015.

 There were 100,000 people without a job in the North East in that time.

That means 20,000 more people had a job here this year compared to the same point in 2014.

There are more men out of work in our region (53,000) than women (47,000).

The unemployment rate for the North East is 7.7%, which is still the highest in the country.

Nationally, unemployment dropped by 76,000 between December and February, to 1.84 million.

The number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance last month fell by just over 20,000.

Average earnings in the year to February increased by 1.7%.
