Teen Arrested Over Attempted Rape In Gateshead

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after an attempted rape in Gateshead.

The incident happened around 10pm on Saturday July 11th near Rickgarth on Leam Lane Estate in Wardley.

A teenager approached a 23-year-old woman and grabbed her.

She wasn't hurt in the incident but was left shaken.

Extra officers will remain in the area to carry out enquiries into the incident and to offer reassurance to local residents.

Detective Superintendent Chris Sharman said:
"We know that this incident will understandably cause concern to the local community and I would like to let them know that we have extra officers in the area and will continue to do so over the coming days to offer them reassurance, anyone who is concerned can speak to an officer on patrol, or contact the local neighbourhood policing team on 101 ext 69191.

A male has been arrested and is currently in police custody. Enquiries into the incident are continuing and officers are providing support to the victim."
