Search Continues For Tyne Bridge Man

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw a man on the Tyne Bridge on New Year's Eve at about 9.40pm, after a member of the public reported that a man had jumped off it.

The police helicopter and the fire and rescue service were called to the scene, together with the ambulance service and police.

An initial search of the area was made, together with extensive searches over the following days, which proved negative.

Enquiries are still underway to locate the man and establish his identity.

At this stage it's believed the incident may be linked to a missing persons enquiry in relation to student Hassan Albash, 21, from Bahrain, and officers are continuing to make enquiries and liaise with Mr Albash's family.

DC Dave Brown said:
"We're continuing to make enquiries following the incident on the bridge and I'd urge any witnesses who saw a man on the bridge on New Year's Eve or witnessed anything in relation to this to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

We know there were people passing over the Tyne Bridge in their vehicles at the time this happened and I'd urge them to contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
