The Red Cross in the North East are asking for young people to think about volunterring with them.

The organisation gives first aid support for thousands of events across the country every year, including big sport and music events.

They want to boost their volunteer numbers by 40% for the upcoming events in 2014 - and are looking to recruit in our region.

Volunteers are given free training and asked to provide around 50 hours of service across the year.

Marc McLinden who's a volunteer at the Red Cross in Newcastle has told Capital you don't need any experience to sign up:
"I didn't when I started. We basically build people from the ground up.

If you do have prior experience that's great, as we always try and build on that.

Any skills that people have we do always try and develop them.

We do a lot of music festivals and sporting events.

We do a lot of work at the Newcastle Arena, JLS, Jessie J concerts, a bit of everything really."
