Police are investigating a suspected rape in Newcastle after a teenage girl woke up in an alleyway.
At just after 1.15am, on Saturday, September 27, police received a report from a member of the public that they had spoken to a 17-year-old girl in a distressed state on Warwick Street.
Initial enquiries have established the girl had gone out for the evening in company with two teenage boys to an address in the Heaton area of Newcastle before waking up in an alley way between Warwick Street and Stratford Grove and seeking the help of a passer-by.
Police are carrying out enquiries into the incident which they are treating as a suspected rape.
They are particularly keen to speak to a group of young boys who saw the girl wake up in the alley way.
Detective Inspector Helen Anderson, from Northumbria Police's Major Crime Team, said:
"We are trying to establish the exact circumstances around this incident and events leading to the teenager waking in the alley way.
When she awoke, there was a group of four young boys next to her telling her she needed to go home. We would urge those boys to come forward.
At this time we are treating them as potential witnesses who may have vital information to assist with our investigation and could help us piece together the series of events.
Anyone else who believes they have information that could help us should also come forward.
Extra officers are patrolling the area to offer reassurance to residents. Anyone with concerns should speak to them."
Anyone with information should contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 119 27/09/14, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
