Man Raped In Sunderland

A man in his 50s has been raped in Sunderland.

It's reported to have happened between 4pm and midnight on Sunday September 28th in the vicinity of Argyle Square in Sunderland City Centre.

The victim reported the incident yesterday evening (Friday October 31st).

Officers are carrying out enquiries and are asking anyone who may have information to come forward.

Regular patrols continue to be carried out throughout Sunderland City Centre.

Acting Detective Sergeant Iain Brown said:
"I'd urge anyone who may have been in Sunderland City Centre on the evening of Sunday September 28 to contact us as they may have information that can help us establish what happened, no matter how small or insignificant they think the information is it could prove crucial in helping us with our enquiries.

Understandably the victim is distressed by what's happened and we have specially trained officers from a dedicated team ensuring he has the support that is required, whether this be from police or other agencies and officers will continue to offer this support right through the investigation."
