A man's in a life threatening condition in hospital after a collision in Northumberland.

At 10.11am this morning police were informed a car had crashed into hedgerow on the A696 between Ponteland and Belsay.

The driver of the vehicle, a red Suzuki Jimny, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition is currently critical.

The passenger, a woman, was taken to hospital with less serious injuries.

The road was closed for a short time to allow the collision to be dealt with.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the Suzuki Jimny in the area around the time of the collision.

It's thought a silver car and a red car were in the area at the time of the crash - the cars were not involved in the collision, however, it's thought the drivers or passengers may have witnessed the collision, or seen the vehicle shortly before it happened.
