A seven-year-old girl and a man aged 49 have died following a house fire in Teesside.

A 10-year-old girl remains in a critical condition after the fire in Hawthorn Road in Redcar, which started just after 11pm on Monday.

Cleveland Police, who are appealing for witnesses, said neither victim will be named until relatives have been informed.

The girls and the man were taken to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for treatment.

The 10-year-old has been transferred to a hospital in Hull.

Cleveland Police said the man and the girls were inside the house at the time of the fire.

The three people caught in the fire were related. The girls' mother lived with them but was not in at the time.
