Hand Grenade Found On Beach In Tynemouth

A rusted hand grenade has been found on Tynemouth beach.

A controlled explosion's been held after someone found the grenade on Sunday afternoon. 

Northumbria Police have told Capital it was discovered around 50m from the sailing club. 

Officers then told the public to leave the beach and a 200m cordon was put in place.

The EOD team from Catterick were called in to make an asssessment before the item was destroyed.
