Gateshead Man Jailed For Murdering His Dad

A son has been jailed for 17 years for murdering his elderly dad in Gateshead.

62 year old Francis Willis, of Carr Hill, Gateshead, appeared before Newcastle Crown Court today (Friday 23rd March) and was jailed for 17 years for the murder of his father, also called Francis Willis, who was 88 years old and from Staindrop, Leam Lane Estate, Gateshead. 

Mr Willis Snr was hit over the head with a hammer at his home in August, 2011. 

Senior Investigating Officer DCI Andy Potts said:
"My thoughts have been with Mr Willis Senior's family throughout this investigation. This has been a difficult ordeal and has had a devastating impact on them. 

"This was a very distressing case for the family who continue to come to terms with what has happened. 

"I would like to thank them for their support during the investigation which has helped to achieve this conviction. My sympathies continue to rest with the family at this difficult time."
