Beauty By The Geeks

Two Newcastle Uni students use their scientific knowledge to reveal the secrets behind what's in our every day beauty products.

Second year students, Brigitte West, 21, and Rose Brown, 20, who live in Jesmond, set up www.beautybythegeeks.com when Brigitte had a bad hair day on her way into uni one day.

She told Capital:
"We had been in labs all the time at uni and we were talking about the science behind our own products.

We came back home and had a look into whether there was anything online that was doing science / beauty and there wasn't, so we decided to fill that little niche."

The site got 10,000 hits in the first 10 days of it launching

The girls take the contents list from well-known beauty products and provide a simple explanation of what the ingredient is and what it does. They then evaluate how effective the product is

As part of the site, they also explain how you can make basic beauty products, like face masks, from everyday household items.

The pair now hope to set up courses to help people learn how to make their own products.
