Two members of staff and two members of the public were injured when men armed with crowbars and a stick held up a bank, police have said.

Three men were on the run and a car was burnt out following the raid at a branch of the TSB in Horden, County Durham, at 10.45am on Wednesday.

Durham Police said paramedics treated two female staff members for minor injuries, while two members of the public, also women, were hurt but did not need treatment.

Locals were told to expect a lot of police activity in the area while inquiries went on.

Inspector Steve Thubron said ``This is clearly a very shocking incident and we are in the very early stages of the investigation.''
