Cannabis worth more than £8 million was found by Border Force officers hidden on a lorry in a shipment of bark in Tyneside.
The 1.3 tonne haul was seized by officials at the North Shields ferry terminal on Tyneside after a sailing from Ijmuiden in Holland on Saturday.
A 35-year-old Dutch man was arrested and has been bailed pending further inquiries.
Several hundred packages of resin and herbal cannabis were discovered within the crates of bark.
Christina Brown, assistant director Border Force North East Command said:
``This seizure by our officers means a significant quantity of drugs has failed to reach the streets and demonstrates Border Force's commitment to keeping them out of the UK.''
