DFDS Seaways has announced it's planning to invest £4million for its Newcastle-Amsterdam route.

The plans include an upgrade of a range of onboard facilities, as well as the installation of new energy saving propellers on King Seaways and Princess Seaways, which operate on the route.

The announcement follows news that DFDS Seaways has carried a record number of passengers on the North Sea service this Summer, including over 65,000 passengers in August alone.

Planned upgrades to the two cruise ferries include:
* Rebuilding and replacing the rudders and propeller blades on the vessels with Kappel propellers in order to help increase fuel efficiency
* Refurbishment of bar facilities on both ships
* Review and update of passenger cabins and pet facilities onboard
