The best seat in the house
Working in Leicester square has its advantages, you know.
So close to Oxford Street you can just pop out to the shops in your lunchbreak and get that new top you've been hankering after.
So close to Soho that a cheeky drink after work is pretty much always an option.
So close to the west end that I can be at the theatre and in my seat well before curtain-up, despite not finishing work until after 7pm.
And then there's the square itself. Yes it is geared towards tourists with its chain restaurants, bars, amusement arcades, souvenir stalls and numerous cinemas.
But there are few places more showbiz and more exciting to be than in Leicester Square on a premiere night.
The cheers, the screams, the unmistakable sounds of cameras going off left right and centre - you can feel (and hear) the buzz a mile off.
Some people wait all day to be part of it, to catch a glimpse of their favourite star. They effectively set up camp with their collapsible chairs, flasks of tea and picnics.
Me, I can just look out the office window and there it all is, right on the door step of Capital towers. And I mean that literally, you can't get out of the main entrance somedays because the red carpet and the hoardes of fans block it off.
A couple of months ago we got an amazing view of the batmobile as it went roaring up and down the length of the square, we saw Mulder and Scully reunited for the first time in 10 years, there was Gwyneth "look at me, i'm back" Paltrow in a barely there mini dress and sky-scraper heels, Sarah Jessica Parker and that tree hat - it looked marginally better from up here. And a short but sweet, blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance by Madonna supporting hubby Guy Ritchie on Monday night.
Tonight, we got to see the incredibly beautiful Keira Knightly (looking dainty and glamorous in an off the shoulder blue chiffon number) working the crowds, along with the rather dashing, suited and booted Dominic Cooper and Ralph Fiennes.
My friends assume that as I'm in the media I should be a bit blasé about celebs.
But they're completely wrong.
If you're ever in Leicester square on a premiere night look up towards Capital's offices, and you'll spot me among a crowd of journalists and other assorted staff members, all with our noses pressed to the windows, jostling each other to get a better look.
I tell you, it's the best seat in the house !
