Claire Miller

Claire has a tough life - not only does she start work in the middle of the day (think of the lie-in), but she has to read the news for Greg Burns!

Name: Claire Miller

Birthday: 11th April

Starsign: Aries

Place of Birth: Barking, Essex

Who's the biggest star you've met? I once found myself queuing up behind Colin Firth in the work canteen. He was rather dashing, ever so tall, an absolute gent, and he smelt quite nice too. And Kylie walked past me. Does that count?

How would your friends describe you? Cheeky, occasionally a bit ditzy, quite tall, and rather freckly.

What's the best story you've covered? The first one I ever reported on - the petrol protests in 2000. I'd only been a journalist for a couple of months and I spent several days with a bunch of truckers outside an oil refinery in Grays. It taught me a valuable lesson - smile sweetly and flutter your eyelashes and you'll always get the story before the man from the BBC.

Which news story would you love to have covered? Princess Diana's death and the public's reaction to it - I was still at Uni learning my trade when it all happened.

What's the best thing about working for Capital 95.8? Getting to work at the station which I always dreamed and hoped I'd end up at.

Your most embarrassing on-air moment? There are so many! But the one that's most embarrassing to me personally is when a certain Irish DJ who shall remain nameless, and who I'd had a crush on forever, introduced me for the first time and I went so weak-kneed I forgot where I was, what I was doing, and that I needed to press a button to start the news jingle ... cue radio silence!

What advice would you give to wannabe journalists? Do as much work experience as you can, don't be too pushy but offer your services and use your initiative. Read loads of papers, watch loads of news channels and listen to loads of radio bulletins. Oh, and don't tell the interviewer at your first job interview you regularly watch Panorama if you don't. They'll only ask you to describe the previous night's edition, in depth (I speak from experience!).
