Once you know the answer, you’ll KICK yourself for getting it wrong.
Is there ANYTHING more annoying than a brainteaser that SHOULD be super simple, but you just can’t get to the answer? Well, here’s one to torture yourself with today.
The correct answer to the puzzle is 21…. But how do you get there?
Well, we know from the first equation that the horses are all worth 10, and the set of two horseshoes is worth four from the second equation.
The pair of horse shoes minus the pair of boots is equal to two… so the two boots must be worth two.
So what does the final equation come to?
Well, there’s now only ONE boot and ONE horse shoe for a start (so are worth half the values they were in the previous equations) – and you have to do the multiplication first according to the rule of BODMAS, which you probably learnt at school (Brackets, Orders or pOwers, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction).
Soooooo the final equation ends up being 10 x 2 + 1. Simples.
Yeah, we totally didn’t get that the first time round, either…
