In 2001 Wingman came down from the hills of Ramsbottom, to the bright lights of the city. He had a dream in his heart and fire in his belly. “I want to be on the radio!” he told the Mayor of Manchester, “and I won’t take no for an answer!”. The Mayor advised Wingman that radio was a very competitive industry and it’s not something you can just ‘walk in to’.
Wingman took the Mayor’s wise word and started gaining as much radio experience as possible. He took the patient’s record requests for Rossendale General Hospital Radio, he worked in the canteen at GMR Manchester and he put Mike Reed’s records away on Jazz FM.
After three years he returned to the Mayor and told him of his adventures. The Mayor looked deep into Wingman’s kindly eyes and uttered the immortal words “You’re ready!”.
From that moment Wingman has gone from strength to strength. He’s worked as a Wingman to radio legends like Gordon Burns, was reunited with Mike Reed and helped Tony Blackburn. Wingman teamed up with Rob Ellis is the hazy days of 2006 and hasn’t looked back since.
