Traffic Problems As Massive Fire Tackled In Trafford

Firefighters are currently in tackling a blaze at a neon sign shop on Chester Road in Trafford.

Crews were called at around 8.10am this morning to reports of a fire involving a neon sign but when they arrived at the scene it was clear that a signmakers' shop was involved.

Control room received a number of calls from members of the public as the smoke could be seen for some distance.

Firefighters from Stretford, Hyde and Salford were called to deal with the incident, along with an aerial appliance to allow crews access to the roof space.

The whole of the building was involved in the blaze and firefighters worked hard to prevent it from spreading to neighbouring properties.

The fire was surrounded by around 10.10am although crews are still extinguishing the fire.

Station Manager Mark Fairclough who is at the scene said: 

"We have three engines and an aerial appliance at the scene. The fire is surrounded and it's mostly out but we will be dealing with the aftermath for some time."

Police have closed the road while the incident is dealt with and a building inspector has been requested to the scene.
